SUMMARY:The Inventor's Patent Academy
DESCRIPTION:Patents protect inventions so that inventors can focus on their work and be compensated for it. But many people don’t know how to navigate the patenting process\, or even where to start. \nThat’s why The Inventor’s Patent Academy was created. This free\, one-of-a-kind\, e-learning course aims to help people understand the patenting process and get them ready to apply for their own patent. It also explores challenges inventors may face along the way—particularly those that typically affect women\, people of color\, veterans\, low-income individuals\, people with disabilities\, and other underrepresented inventors—and provides advice to overcome them. Throughout the program\, participants will hear from actual inventors about the challenges they faced and their successes on their journeys to bring ideas to life. \nThis course is unique because it was made by inventors\, patent experts\, and—most importantly—diversity and inclusion experts\, in collaboration with Invent Together partner Qualcomm: one of America’s most innovative companies\, with a portfolio of more than 140\,000 patents. \nIf more people are encouraged to invent and have the tools and knowledge to patent\, we can begin to make real systemic change and build a more diverse and inclusive innovation ecosystem—complete with new inventors\, new ideas\, and new technologies. \nStart your patenting journey today! Register here. \n

SUMMARY:BioEntrepreneurship Initiative
DESCRIPTION:Interested in the cross-section of entrepreneurship\, biotechnology\, and healthcare? Want to explore starting a company around your research but looking for a program and team to help you along the way?   \nThe BioEntrepreneurship Initiative provides Ph.D.\, M.D.\, and D.V.M. candidates\, as well as post-docs from across Cornell’s campuses and Tri-Institutional partners\, with the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world startup creation. Participants will be matched with a dedicated MBA student to design their own life science startup. Along the way\, participants will gain the tools\, training\, and connections they need through a certificate program offered by the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management.    \nUp to 30 applicants will be selected to start the program in the Spring of 2023 – half of the selected Fellows will be MBA students\, and half will be researchers\, innovators\, and clinicians in the life sciences.    \n\nApply for the program. The deadline for researchers\, innovators\, and clinicians to apply is April 7. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. \n\nFor more information\, contact bioentrepreneurship@cornell.edu.

SUMMARY:A Roadmap for Climate Action - Investing in Technology\, Nature and Policy for a Sustainable Planet
DESCRIPTION:Solving the climate crisis will require new ways of doing business and allocating resources that can benefit both people and the planet. Climate science tells us that abating the most harmful greenhouse gasses and protecting nature’s role in stabilizing our climate have the potential to avoid runaway warming scenarios. While the solutions for effective climate action are largely known\, it is the speed of implementation that will matter greatly\, as will our ability to see the many dimensions of the scaling problem. This talk will roadmap technological and nature-based solutions\, financing mechanisms\, and effective policy — all of which play a critical role in addressing the most pressing issue of our times. It will highlight the key levers for action\, such as methane mitigation\, climate finance mobilization\, and natural systems restoration – and our common but differentiated responsibilities for action in this most critical decade ahead. This talk will focus on methane\, climate finance\, and policy for emissions reductions. \nThis event is presented as part of the 2023 Perspectives on the Climate Change Challenge Seminar Series. \nJoin in person at 155 Olin Hall or Zoom.
