SUMMARY:UTS Series #2 - Pitching 101: How to Present Your Startups and Technology Innovation to Potential Funders
DESCRIPTION:For CTL second University Technology Startup (UTS) series\, Margalit Haber and Ajay Rayasam at Osage University Partners (OUP) will focus the session on how an entrepreneur\, or a faculty-entrepreneur can develop and deliver a pitch to gain interest and commitment from potential investors. \nPitching an early-stage science- and technology-based startup to potential funders can be intimidating. Learning how to tailor your presentation and understanding what motivates funders to say yes\, or at least not give you an outright no\, are important aspects of preparing for your initial pitch. This talk will be structured around OUP’s many years of experience in hearing pitches and reviewing pitch decks to provide insight on creating and presenting an initial startup pitch to funders. \n  \nSpeakers:\nMargalit Haber\, PhD\, Associate\, Life Sciences\, OUP\nAjay Rayasam\, M.S.\, Associate\, Technology\, OUP \n  \nRegister at https://cornell.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJAud-2pqzgoGNBJq_SmMtbViIiqdO6CEVyf

SUMMARY:2021 CCMR Symposium: “High Performance Soft Materials: from Bioinspiration to Synthesis and Fabrication”
DESCRIPTION:CCMR Symposium – June 9\, 2021 – Virtual – Free Registration! \n   \nHigh-performance soft materials: from bioinspiration to synthesis and fabrication! \n   \nREGISTRATION IS OPEN! \n   \n2021 Organizing Committee:\nProf. Lawrence Bonassar\, Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering/Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering\, College of Engineering\, Cornell University \n   \nProf. Nikolaos Bouklas\, Sibley School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering\, College of Engineering\, Cornell University \n   \nA new generation of engineering applications\, propelled by industry and government-led initiatives\, has created an array of challenges towards enhancing the performance capabilities of soft materials. This effort has focused on a variety of goals\, including the development of novel soft materials that \n\ncan match the natural properties of biological tissues\,\nare responsive to external multi-physical stimuli and\ncan function in structural and load bearing applications.\n\n   \nApplications in tissue engineering\, bioengineering\, soft robotics\, flexible electronics\, energetic materials and structural design\, all pose requirements towards optimizing combinations of material properties\, such as strength\, toughness\, fatigue resistance\, lubricity\, and wear resistance. For example recent advances have led to the development of double network hydrogels\, soft composites\, as well as hydrogels and elastomers with dynamic bonds which all are designed towards improved material properties. Bioinspiration and multiscale understanding of the underlying mechanisms that govern the material behavior prove to be extremely important for informing the design and generation of soft materials\, devices\, and implants. At the same time\, advancements in fabrication techniques such as 3D printing are expanding the application space of soft materials. The acceleration of soft material design needs to be supported by the concurrent evolution of fabrication and characterization techniques so that existing shortcomings of soft materials are overcome. \n   \nThe goal of this symposium is to bring together experts in the characterization\, design\, fabrication\, and application of high performance soft material to discuss recent developments in the field and priorities for interdisciplinary approaches to moving the field forward. \n   \nRegister:\nhttps://www.ccmr.cornell.edu/industry/ccmr-symposium/registration/ccmr-symposium-registration-form/

SUMMARY:Women Innovators Initiative (WI2): Running a Startup: Perspective of Two Women Founders and CEOs from Cornell
DESCRIPTION:According to Silicon Valley Bank report [1]\, 28% of U.S. startups have a female founder and 14% have a female CEO. While venture capital is their most likely next source of funding regardless of the gender makeup of the founding team\, the startups with a female founder are slightly less likely to rely on them for funding. Companies founded solely by women garnered 2.1% of the total capital invested in venture-backed startups in the US [2]. \n  \nFor the third WI2 webinar\, we speak with two women founders and CEOs from Cornell University to find out about their experience as female founders/CEOs and to hear about the lessons learned during the formation and the growth of their venture. \n  \nPanelists: \n\nRachel Dorin\, Ph.D.\, President and CEO\, and Co-Founder\, Terapore\nSiyu Huang\, Ph.D.\, Co-Founder and CEO\, Lionano\n\nModerator: \n\nAlice Li\, Ph.D.\, Executive Director\, Center for Technology Licensing\, Cornell University\n\nRegistration link: \n\nhttps://cornell.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_l6Q791OkRg2DgJIUt1VV-w\n\n  \n[1] 2020 Women in US Technology Leadership.
