SUMMARY:The OUP Exchange: Licensing Trends for Climate Tech Startups
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the Virtual Exchange is to share best practices across a broad network and make connections in the tech transfer world. In this Exchange\, we’ll share best practices for licensing to climate tech startups\, including the following questions: \n\nGiven the ever-evolving climate tech landscape these past few years\, how have your licensing practices to these startups changed\, if at all? What are your pain points working with these startups? What are some best practices your office has implemented?\nHave royalty percentage amounts or structures changed recently in your climate tech startup licenses? What are some best practices you can share regarding structuring compensation for Licensed Product sales in climate tech licenses?\nAre you utilizing milestone payments as a different lever in your climate tech startup licenses? If so\, have these been to offset some or all earned royalty payments?\nHave these startups requested any interesting non-financial terms?\n\nBring your pain points and lessons learned pertaining to climate tech startup licensing. We’ll start out with a brief panel discussion addressing some of these questions\, followed by breakout rooms to talk through additional points\, and then a brief summary of the breakout discussions back in the main room. \nEach breakout room will have a moderator and scribe. The moderators will keep the discussions moving in the breakout rooms\, and the scribes will be responsible for summarizing the key findings of their breakout session and presenting them to the larger group. If you would like to volunteer for one of these positions\, please designate that on your registration form or email Jaimie Testai at jtestai@oup.vc. You are also welcome to send in advance to Jaimie any additional questions you would like to see discussed during the Exchange. \nCome discuss\, network\, and learn together on March 5th or 6th. We will run two sessions since we know not everyone can always make a specific date and time. \nWhile most of our programs are open to a broad swath of audiences\, the purpose of the Exchange is to share best practices in the academic tech transfer field and therefore is only open to individuals employed by our partner institutions’ Technology Commercialization Offices. \nRegistration

SUMMARY:Pitching 101: How to Present Your Startups and Technology Innovation to Potential Funders
DESCRIPTION:For CTL New Ventures Series\, Kirsten Leute at Osage University Partners (OUP) will focus the session on how an entrepreneur or a faculty-entrepreneur can develop and deliver a pitch to gain interest and commitment from potential investors. \nPitching an early-stage science- and technology-based startup to potential funders can be intimidating. Learning how to tailor your presentation and understanding what motivates funders to say yes\, or at least not give you an outright no\, are important aspects of preparing for your initial pitch. This talk will be structured around OUP’s many years of experience in hearing pitches and reviewing pitch decks to provide insight on creating and presenting an initial startup pitch to funders. \nRegister now.
