Inventors at Cornell have discovered that placing a known “triple state quencher” (“TSQ”) molecule in close spatial proximity to a fluorescent molecule can be used to control the fluorophore’s photophysical properties. The TSQ molecule can be covalently attached to any commercially available organic fluorophore.
