Upon successful completion of the program\, you’ll have the entrepreneurial training\, mindset\, and judgment you need to launch a startup based on your research or become a leader in the growing life science technology economy. Plus\, you will receive a certificate from the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management. \nPh.D. candidates in the program are restricted to those in the third year and higher conducting graduate level research on a topic related to health\, pharma\, med tech\, biotech\, veterinary tech\, molecular bioscience\, and agritech or similar. Postdoctoral fellows in the same research areas are also welcome to participate. Research participants can be from across Cornell’s Ithaca and NYC campuses\, as well as from Cornell’s Tri-Institutional partners (Memorial Sloan Kettering and The Rockefeller University). SUMMARY:Technology Innovation Workshop: Intellectual Property
DESCRIPTION:The second installment of the Technology Innovation Workshop series will cover the essentials of intellectual property for startups. Led by Frank DeCosta and Phillip Owh\, the presentation will include IP dos and don’ts\, patent filing\, and tips on how to leverage Cornell’s Center for Technology Licensing (CTL). \nDeCosta is a widely regarded expert in patent litigation and a partner at Finnegan Henderson\, a full-service IP firm where he leads the firm’s litigation section with experience in patent litigation\, software\, and client counseling. Owh serves as the Director of Business Development & Licensing for Life Sciences at CTL\, where he draws on his background in biochemistry to manage a portfolio of inventions that span the life sciences spectrum from agriculture to health. \nThe session will conclude with information about the Commercialization Fellowship\, an opportunity for Cornell Engineering Ph.D. candidates to take a deep dive into the commercialization process and potential real-world applications of university inventions. DESCRIPTION:Interested in the cross-section of entrepreneurship\, biotechnology\, and healthcare? Want to explore starting a company around your research but looking for a program and team to help you along the way?   \nThe BioEntrepreneurship Initiative provides Ph.D.\, M.D.\, and D.V.M. candidates\, as well as post-docs from across Cornell’s campuses and Tri-Institutional partners\, with the opportunity to immerse themselves in real-world startup creation. Participants will be matched with a dedicated MBA student to design their own life science startup. Along the way\, participants will gain the tools\, training\, and connections they need through a certificate program offered by the SC Johnson Graduate School of Management.    \nUp to 30 applicants will be selected to start the program in the Spring of 2023 – half of the selected Fellows will be MBA students\, and half will be researchers\, innovators\, and clinicians in the life sciences.    \n\nApply for the program.
