IDEXX BVDV PI X2 Test
Inventor: Edward Dubovi
Department: Population Medicine and Diagnostic Services
The IDEXX BVDV PI X2 Test is the only USDA-licensed test for detecting persistently infected (PI) calves. The kit offers superior sensitivity, speed, and simplicity compared to other test methods. It comes with easy to use, highly stable reagents resistant to temperature fluctuations.

Inventor: Douglas Antczak, Samantha Brooks
Department: Animal Science
Testing is easy and highly accurate, and can be performed at any point in time in the life of the animal with pulled hair, whole blood, in EDTA or bristle style cheek swaps. All breeding animals should be tested to avoid major losses and heartache for owners and to prevent morbidity in the animals.

The genetic basis for Leopard Complex has been identified and this test can determine the specific mutation. Large insertion within the gene known as TRPM1 is the mutation responsible for LP.

Inventor: Gregory Acland
Department: Baker Institute for Animal Health
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) is a heterogeneous class of retinal disorders that share a broadly similar clinical disease phenotype. The prcd-PRA test is done on a small sample of blood from the dog. The test analyzes the specific DNA mutation causing the prcd-PRA. The test detects the mutant, abnormal gene copy and the normal gene copy. The result of the test is a genotype and allows separation of dogs into three groups: Normal/Clear (homozygous normal), Carrier (heterozygous), and Affected (homozygous mutant).

Inventor: Gregory Acland
Department: Baker Institute for Animal Health
The Inherited Retinal Dysplasia (RD)/OculoSkeletal Dysplasia (OSD) test is done on a small sample of blood obtained by a veterinarian or on a cheek swab. The test will identify dogs as being Normal, Carrier, or Affected with OSD. It is expected that many, but not all, carriers will show significant retinal dysplasia-retinal folding.

Inventor: George Lust
Department: Microbiology and Immunology
ReproCHEK™ Canine Pregnancy Test Kit uses highly purified and specific antibodies to detect the presence of the hormon relaxin in canine whole blood or plasma. The presence of significant amounts of relaxin indicates pregnancy. ReproCHEK™ offers an early, inexpensive, and reliable means of determining canine pregnancy.

This invention describes a point mutation for Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS) in horses and its application in genetic testing.
Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS) is an inherited systemic connective tissue disorder that is prevalent in Warmblood horses. It is typified by skin hyperextensibility and fragility and afflicted foals must be euthanized.
The current invention represents the only mutation associated with WFFS of which we are currently aware. While it is not clear whether absence of this point mutation means that the tested animal is normal, as the test would not detect other distinct mutations that may cause clinically similar connective tissue fragility syndromes, proper breeding strategies for horses that are carriers of this mutation must be adopted so as to prevent avoid progeny that are homozygous for this mutation. This invention describes a point mutation for Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome (WFFS) in horses and its application in genetic testing.
