Cornell’s potato breeding program has released chipping and tablestock potato varieties, most resistant to the golden nematode (race Ro1). Each variety is available through a non-exclusive Express License.

Chipping
Walter De Jong has developed several chipping potato varieties with valuable traits such as high yield, high specific gravity, and excellent fry color from cold storage. Most of these varieties are resistant to race Ro1 of the golden nematode. Another objective of the program is to incorporate resistance to common scab and potato virus Y.
Kanestio
‘Kanestio’ is a full season chipping variety producing round to oblong tubers with lightly netted skin. Tubers exhibit few external or internal defects, with excellent chip color out of cold storage — comparable to or better than Lamoka in most trials. Marketable yield is excellent, averaging 111% of Snowden across SNAC trials in northern states. Resistant to potato virus Y, late blight race US-23, and golden nematode race Ro1. Moderately susceptible to common scab.
Waneta
‘Waneta’ is a late maturity chipstock. Large tubers with attractive shape and moderately textured skin. In Cornell trials, yield has been comparable to ‘Atlantic’, while gravity has averaged 0.01 less than ‘Atlantic’. Few pickouts, but large tubers have shown 5 to 10% hollow heart. Very good chip color from 44 degree storage. Dormancy is six weeks longer than ‘Atlantic’. Less susceptible to blackspot than ‘Snowden’. Moderately resistant to common scab. Resistant to the golden nematode (Ro1).
Lamoka
‘Lamoka’ is a late maturity chipstock that produces attractive, round tubers. Specific gravity has averaged 0.004 less than ‘Atlantic’. Excellent chip color from cold storage. Good resistance to common scab. Resistant to the golden nematode (Ro1).
Lady Liberty
‘Lady Liberty’ is a late-season chipstock producing smaller round-shaped tubers with netted skin. Excellent chip color from cold storage. Good-yielding ability. Moderate-to-good resistance to common scab. Suitable for the small-sized snack-pack market.
Bliss
‘Bliss’ is a mid-to-late season chipstock with exceptionally light chip color out of cold storage and very few internal defects. Specific gravity has averaged 0.004 less than ‘Atlantic’. Resistant to race Ro1 of the golden nematode and moderately resistant to common scab. Previously tested as NY163.
Brodie
‘Brodie’ is a full season maturity chipstock producing large tubers with oblong shape. Smooth white skin with white flesh. Excellent chip color from cold storage. Excellent yielding ability. Resistant to the golden nematode (Ro1 & Ro2). The resistance to both strains is what makes this variety special.
Tablestock
Walter De Jong’s tablestock breeding program aims to develop smooth-skinned, round white, yellow, and red table-stock potatoes that are resistant to race Ro1 of the golden nematode, common scab, and potato virus Y.
Brodie
‘Brodie’ is a full season maturity tablestock that produces large tubers with oblong shape. Smooth white skin with white flesh. Excellent chip color from cold storage. Excellent yielding ability. Resistant to the golden nematode (Ro1 & Ro2). The resistance to both strains is what makes this variety special.
Upstate Abundance
‘Upstate Abundance’ is an early season maturity white tablestock that produces many small round tubers with smooth skin. Resistant to race Ro1 of the golden nematode. Some resistance to common scab and late blight.

Algonquin
‘Algonquin’ is an early-to-mid season maturity white tablestock that features attractive large and oval tubers with a smoother skin than ‘Superior’. Good resistance to common scab. Resistant to race Ro1 of the golden nematode.
